ARTIST NOTES: Echoes of the outback #2 is part of a series of monotypes that captures the delicate, overlapping forms of gum leaves, created through a layered process using acrylic paint on a gel plate. Each leaf impression was individually applied, allowing for subtle shifts in tone, texture, and transparency. The layering technique evokes the natural build-up of fallen leaves on the forest floor, highlighting the organic rhythm and quiet complexity of the Australian bush. The work explores themes of impermanence, memory, and the interplay between nature and abstraction. No two prints are the same—each is a unique response to the moment of creation.

ARTIST BIO

Based at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne, Karelyn Joy is an emerging professional artist with a lifelong background in Visual Arts education. After a dedicated career teaching all ages and abilities, she has now embraced her own creative practice full-time, bringing a wealth of experience, passion, and curiosity to her work.

Specialising in bespoke monotype prints created on Gelatin plates, her art explores the unpredictable and organic nature of printmaking. Each piece is a unique expression, revealing itself only at the precise moment the print is pulled - a process that echoes the spontaneity and beauty of the natural world.

Deeply inspired by the wonder of creation and the intricate details found in nature, Karelyn incorporates botanical material, foliage and inherited pressed flowers in the printmaking process and as delicate embellishments, creating a poignant connection between generations.

Karelyn shares her passion for Printmaking, implementing local community workshops where she encourages others to explore the joys of this accessible and expressive medium.
