Manchester Unity Building by Damien Lewis

Features

ARTIST NOTES: Dark stormy clouds and a lofty tower inspire thoughts of a castle of medieval times or perhaps even a villain's lair. This striking Art Deco Gothic structure sits atop downtown Melbourne's magnificent Manchester Unity Building. Designed by Marcus Barlow and inspired by the Chicago Tribune Building, it was completed in record time in 1932 and was then the tallest building in Melbourne, Australia.

This large print is specially framed in black with a tasteful antique gold trim that highlights the aged sandstone tone of the building. It brings a delightful sense of art deco Melbourne heritage to any space.

ARTIST BIO

I am a photographer and author with a passion for history, old buildings, vintage objects, and travel.

Driven by an appreciation for storytelling, I strive to create fine art photography that doesn’t just decorate a space, but truly connects with people; pieces that ignite conversation, stir emotion, and evoke a sense of nostalgia. Photography allows me to express what I love and transform those passions into something tangible and meaningful; something that can be shared. After all, much of life’s joy comes from sharing what moves us, with others.

My journey into photography began quite unexpectedly around 20 years ago, when I started taking photos of friends performing in a band. That moment sparked something enduring. Inspired, I went on to study photography and joined a local photographic society, where my work quickly gained recognition, and I’ve been fortunate to receive awards up to national level. Today, I regularly exhibit at FlackPTO Gallery and at a few selected art shows across Victoria, where my work has also been recognised with multiple awards.

All my work is meticulously printed using archival inks on premium gallery-grade cotton rag paper, ensuring each piece is vibrant and rich in detail, with the durability to last a lifetime.
