ARTIST NOTES: That Wanaka Tree is a Willow Tree located at the southern end of Lake Wanaka on the South Island of New Zealand. The tree sits alone in the water on a tiny island It has become a popular destination for tourists to take Instagram photos and more serious photographers at sunrise and sunset.
On the day I was there in April 2023 there were over 200 photographers and their tripods at sunrise and over 100 for sunset.
New Zealand’s spectacular scenery doesn’t just become photogenic at sunrise and ceases at sunset as I hope this “blue hour” shot shows
